Little Monsters

It was a week of readjustment after school vacation with the kids crashing into our bed every night.  We woke to their silliness, reminiscent of earlier times with toddlers at home (but with much more sleep!).  It’s incredible that their siblinghood lends constant access to a collectively creative world – with stories and games that exist only in their bubble. When they broke out into a perfectly synchronized, bizarre song and dance – I couldn’t believe that it was their own original creation.  And I could barely contain myself when their new band emerged.

With the girl on the harmonica and the boy of the maracas – there was never an absence of noise at home.  Throw in a beloved Furby, a newly installed bedroom doorbell and Olympic level energy too.  But somehow, I had a pretty solid perspective through it all.  The toys underfoot and noise became homages to the vibrant family life alive in our home.  Led by these two amazing and ridiculous little people:Merino clothing Litttle Flock of Horrors

Their fun clothing was sent to us by Little Flock of Horrors –  a company that uses 100% New Zealand Merino Wool (the best in the world!) for all of their garments.  We love that LFOH clothing is 100% natural, biodegradable, renewable and sustainable, and free of harmful flame retardants.  The kids were drawn to the ultra softness and cozy warmth in winter.  Since Merino is a great insulator and temperature regulator, LFOH allows little monsters to stay comfortable through naturally breathable material that is odor-resistant and easy to clean.

I love seeing my texture-conscious kids find comfort in their chic and straightforward styles.  Most importantly, LFOH allows kids to focus on the important work of childhood: plotting, noise-making, head-colliding, and mess-making.

Swoon-worthy indeed.

Better Starts Now with CITIZEN || Sunday Swoon

I love the feeling of a fresh start that a new year brings.  Even several weeks in, I’ve found a renewed optimism and am listing to that creative pull that is always present.  It’s not just the cliché of a brand new year – I simply want to be the best version of myself that I can possibly be.

I suppose that we are all pressed for time in one way or another, and I recently joined CITIZEN Watch Company to focus on the fresh start that each new day brings.

Better Starts Now is the simple belief that no matter who you are or what you do, it is always possible to make something better — and now is the time to start doing it. We believe that better and now are both infinite, and that there is always a next ‘better’ and a new ‘now’ in which you can start pursuing it. – Wieden+Kennedy, Citizen

It seemed fitting to join in the conversation at CITIZEN’s flagship store in Times Square. Some find the hustle and bustle of the city overwhelming.  I find it incredibly inspiring and invigorating.

Past the bootleg characters and tourists hoping to see their photos appear on the big screens, I took in helpful tips on exercise, nutrition, style and beauty from CITIZEN’s panel of experts – in alignment with their better starts now theme.

I also had a look at the CITIZEN watch collection – all driven by eco-drive technology.  Modern, clean, beautiful and efficiently powered by light alone.

I was lucky enough to be gifted their Sunrise model and have since worked it into my regular rotation. Stunning, stylish with an elegant white Mother-of-Pearl dial and sapphire crystal, in a timeless two-tone stainless steel case and bracelet.  I appreciate the light feel and time saved in never having to change a battery.  Swoon-worthy indeed!

Cold Weather Favorites || Sunday Swoon

To school and back. On the subway.  After the play-date.  Just a few more blocks. You can do it kiddos!!!

We cover a ton of ground – whether we want to our not. Our lifestyle simply requires it.  Scooters have been the perfect transportation for kiddos that can’t handle a ton of walking but are forced to hustle.  Frigid temps are clearly on the way, and the kids will be scooting as long as it’s safe. I think we still have a bit of time until the sidewalks freeze over and I’m making sure that everyone is well bundled to handle the winter months.

We’ve been keeping little hands warm thanks to the ingenious folks at 7 A.M ENFANT.  Their Kids WarMMuffs™ are brilliantly insulated with ultra-protective heat-retention fibers and soft fleece lining. They efficiently trap in heat, and I’m pretty sure that they are equipped with some sort of anti-whine technology.

I happen to love that the Kids WarMMuffs™ snugly attach to scooters with a secure velcro fastener.  Since they “live” on the scooters – it’s one less thing for me to remember – or have to search for – which can be a challenge if a mitten-eating monster resides in your home too.

We’ve gone from baby to big-kid with 7 A.M. ENFANT.  Although I’m admittedly mourning the fact that I won’t be cocooning a stroller-strapped toddler in a 212 evolution this winter – I’m grateful that cold scoots are warmed up for my kids on the go.

Salt Therapy || Sunday Swoon

When it comes to health and wellness, I prefer to take the most natural route whenever possible.  I’ve been intrigued by the therapeutic uses of salt and was eager to test out the salt room and bed at Breathe Easy in Oasis Day Spa.

Salt therapy, also known as halotherapy or speleotherapy, is a natural remedy for numerous sinus, allergy, skin and lung ailments. The anti-bacterial properties found in salt help to clean the lungs and sinuses of infection, as well as bacteria.

Breathe Easy offers the closest thing to the salt caves that have been used to improve health and well-being for centuries – in a spa-like atmosphere.  A Halogenator emits natural salt particles into the air and throughout the room. The sessions are incredibly peaceful and calming – and I noticed an immediate improvement in my sinus issues after a 45-minute session in a bed.  They even offer sessions for children – that can be helpful for asthma suffers and parents seeking natural alternatives to medication.

Although a bit skeptical at first – my sinuses were cleared in one session, which is an important part of remaining migraine-free.  I’m a believer!

Dyson DC59 Motorhead – Bagless Cordless Vacuum || Sunday Swoon

Once in a while, we are introduced to a product that we can’t help but describe in glowing-superlatives.  Enter Dyson’s DC59 Motorhead.  A cordless (yes cordless!), bagless vacuum boasting Olympic-level suction power in its under five pound body.

While we were once more inclined to grab a dust-pan and broom to tidy up quickly – the efficient Dyson DC59 Motorhead allows us to cleanup with minimal effort.  We simply take it off the included charing port mounted to the kitchen wall and stick it back in place when finished.  It has removed the time-commitment that previously came along with vacuuming because there is no cumbersome body, cords to unravel or disgusting bag to change. Dyson DC59 Motorhead cordless vacuumThe straightforward bagless clear receptacle can be opened with the touch of a button to dispose of dust and remnants collected while cleaning.  We happen to find it gratifying to see the gunk collection along the way and not have the particles live inside the vacuum for an extended period. We simply toss after each cleaning.

The DC59 Motorhead, like the name implies, has a motorized head-piece packed with the sort of power that surpasses most standard uprights.  We have found the vacuum to be perfect (yes perfect!) for our small space and lifestyle.  Time is no longer wasted vacuuming the same spots over and over again because Dyson’s DC59 Motorhead conquers dust on the first swipe. Unlike our previous vacuums – this one isn’t a clunky eyesore, and the slim profile is incredible space saving.  And we are now vacuuming more than ever in small increments!  The versatile included attachments allow the vacuum to morph easily into a hand-held to access hard to reach corners and the interior of our car.

While the 25 minute battery life has been suitable for us –  I do wish that there was an option (perhaps an optional chord?) to extend the life for die-out during a cleaning session (it takes about 3.5 hours to fully re-charge).

At $549, the Dyson DC59 Motorhead is an investment – but one that we believe is worth the cost in the long run.  The efficiency, versatility and slim profile has transformed our cleaning regime – and the kiddos can even use it too!
