A Girls Night In + a Fabulous Signature Cocktail

watermelon-strawberry-cocktail-recipeThis is a sponsored post in partnership with our friends at Megan Media and Tropicana.  Thanks for reading! #MixedWithTrop

Organizing a night out on the town with friends isn’t always easy, especially as a parent.  But sometimes, you just need to group text your girlfriends and insist on a much-needed girls night.  And sometimes, staying in with your besties is even more fun than going out.

Recently, we were all craving time together, perhaps now more than ever.  And motherhood has a way of reminding me of the importance of spending time with the incredible females in my life.  Even if a little get-together is pulled together at the last minute (and even if I have folded laundry in the corner of my dining room), a fun and festive gathering is possible, with a quick trip to the grocery store and a simple (yet fabulous!) signature cocktail.

With dreams of all that is warm and bright (or maybe an escape to a tropical island), a fun Watermelon & Strawberry cocktail elevated my little shindig to official party status.

Grab this recipe (or print and save it).  You’ll thank me later!

This was my first time using Tropicana Watermelon premium drink, and I absolutely had to hide it in the back of the fridge so my kids wouldn’t get to it before the party. It’s definitely delicious and refreshing on its own, but it’s an even tastier cocktail mixer. Free of artificial sweeteners and artificial flavors, it’s the perfect drink to amp up your cocktail recipe game, while making you feel like a master of at-home mixology.

With some casual appetizers to snack and yummy drinks to sip, we were good to go!

Cheers and always be responsible friends!

A Vintage Tea Party

Consideration provided by Hallmark at Walgreens.

I believe in the importance of returning the everyday kindness that is reflected my way. Gratitude is such a powerful thing, isn’t it? And there are always opportunities to positively impact the shape of someone’s day. Through a language barrier and a significant age gap, I’m lucky to have the sort of neighbor who intuitively knows when I’m stretched and frazzled.  She subtly responds by picking up a piece of chalk to join my kids in their sidewalk masterpieces – or she’ll appear with a watering can to enlist little one’s help in her garden.  With just a simple look I feel her support – and I too hope that she feels mine.

Over the years we’ve surprised our lovely friend with small gestures on her summer birthday. Drawings from the kids or her favorite green tea cake from the Japanese market brings such a beautiful light to her eyes.  Something as simple as a card from our local drug store and flowers from the market can have such a big impact, without making our gracious and humble recipient feel uncomfortable.

While picking up medicine for my little guy at Walgreens over the weekend, I found an ornately decorated Hallmark Signature card in the shape of a purse.  Instead of tucking the card into the accompanying envelope, wrapping it around flowers created what felt like an instant piece of art.

Throw in the family’s vintage demitasse set for birthday tea and macaroons and we had a proper little celebration wrapped in thoughtful words (with help from Hallmark), hopefully conveying just how much we care.

Spreading Happiness With a Disney Kids Preschool Playdate

Walt Disney World Resort’s and MomSelect selected us to host a Disney Kids Preschool Playdate and sent us a fun celebration kit. Thanks for reading!

Over the past few years, we’ve had a great catalyst to throw some pretty fun bashes – and we were so excited to join again in the Disney Kids Preschool Playdate fun, all thanks to the Happiest Place On Earth.  We’ll certainly welcome all the happy that we can get around here and bringing kids together with Disney-infused magic equals guaranteed joy!

Our fun morning began in our home with some simple snacks and fun!  Inside little cartons, I set up a table with carrots, raisins, mini cream cheese sandwiches on cinnamon raisin bread, dried seaweed (I promise kids love it!), cookies and clementines.  For a special (healthier) treat, we served chilled Nesquick in milk.  Fun Disney party supplies with additional pops of red pulled our party theme together.

Before moving outside, we had a “make-a-goodie-bag” station bringing on Olympic level excitement. Disney Junior Lion Guard temporary tattoos and animal figurines from Disney’s Animal Kingdom were a big hit! The kids tucked their trinkets into GLAD sandwich zipper bags emblazoned with Disney Pixar’s Cars designs. Along with fun trinkets, the kids grabbed Sofia The First or Jake and The Neverland Pirates crowns, Lion Guard Posters, a Disney Parks preschool map, and a great Disney Junior bag to secure all the loot!

With some balls packed into a Sofia The First themed suitcase from American Tourister, we moved the celebration to our local park. And after a few organized games and creative free play, we thoroughly shared our love for Disney with our equally excited little buddies!

Special thank you to Walt Disney World Resorts and Mom Select for having us host. Visit for great ideas on planning a Walt Disney World Resort vacation with preschoolers.

A Modern Day Superhero Birthday Bash

This post is part of the #PartyReddi campaign sponsored by Reddi-wip.  Opinions, as always are my own.  Thanks for reading!

Our little guy is approaching his fifth birthday and desperately needs to know “HOW MANY MORE DAYS?!!!”. While one month may not be soon enough for him, I have enough time to plan his summer bash.  We’re all for simple and fun kids’ birthday parties – and in that spirit we styled a cool monochrome-themed birthday dessert bar, fit for the modern day superhero.

With a cost-conscious focus on minimal prep time,  I grabbed all of the food, toppings, Reddi-wip® and some needed supplies at our local Walmart.  Here’s how the desert bar was set-up in a hot-after-school-matter-of-minutes.

  • Go for individual cake bowls. In lieu of baking a birthday cake, serve mini strawberry angel food cake bowls.  Simply follow these easy steps:
  1. Prepare macerated strawberries by washing and slicing strawberries, and then sprinkling with sugar.  Cover in a bowl and refrigerate overnight.
  2. layer Reddi-wip, macerated strawberries, a slice of angel food cake and repeat.
  3. Celebrate with Reddi-wip by adding delicious dollops! Have fun helping the kids select toppings.
  • Go for premade! Picking up an angel food cake at the Walmart bakery cuts party prep time in half.  And right now, Walmart is offering a free smash cake with any bakery purchase of $14.98.

  • Serve no-fuss desserts.  In addition to the individual cakes – serve no fuss options like mini chilled chocolate milk jugs. Simply stick the milk in the freezer to chill a few minutes ahead of time for a frosty taste.  Also, go for options like pudding served in mini bowls.
  • Set up a toppings bar with options like blueberries, raspberries, granola, sprinkles and Reddi-wip.  Use this coupon to grab a $1.00 savings on any two Reddi-wip whipped topping products 6.5oz or larger with the purchase of fresh berries.
  • Personalize the party theme. Our little guy dreams of developing his own super powers!  Adding unique superhero masks to the dessert bar helps to pull the monochrome theme together.  And this age group will love morphing into superheroes while enjoying tasty treats!
  • Stick to the plan.  A fantastic budget friendly party is absolutely possible with the right preparations! Stick to your budget and enjoy the festivities and togetherness that will live on in your little ones’ memories.

This simple kids birthday bash is easy and fun with a Reddi-wip party staple offering more birthday party for less!  We like the fact that it’s a healthier alternative to the food-colored options typically served to this age group, and a delicious, creamy alternative to other oil-based toppings.  With real dairy cream as the #1 ingredient, it’s a great party treat – even when the kids are caught red handed!

WIN IT! We’re excited to offer one lucky reader a $50 Walmart gift card to get #PartyReddi for that spring or summer birthday bash!  To enter, simply visit the rafflecopter below.  US only and best of luck!

With a goal of keeping things fun and simple we couldn’t think of a more perfect spot than this classic, family-owned ice cream parlor with old school charm.  The kiddos made sand art, ate pizza, and hopped on the shop’s spinning wooden stools to load up on temporary tattoos set up along the parlor’s bar.
