A Kmart Shopping Spree With Marlo Thomas For St. Jude

Tis’ the season of giving and yesterday amidst the holiday shoppers, an incredibly meaningful event took place inside Kmart in New York City.  Marlo Thomas, St. Jude National Outreach Director, kicked of a limitless shopping spree to benefit the children of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in conjunction with Kmart’s annual St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign. She was assisted by 11-year-old Mary, a six-grade student with an infectious smile, who underwent treatment for high-risk Hodgkin’s lymphoma at St. Jude.

It was an honor to be amongst Kmart’s K-Club bloggers invited to participate in Kmart’s generous act of goodness.  Upon receiving a Santa cap adorned with a St. Jude pin, I received an empty cart to delve into the fully-stocked toy isles.  Before I knew it, my cart was overflowing with the sort of gifts that topped the hot toy lists at all of the season’s toy shows.  Toys for children of all ages and genders; toys that I knew my own children would love to receive.  The grand tally of the collective carts surpassed $10,000 – and knowing that they’re off to St. Jude is the highlight of my holiday.

  2. what a great event!!!!! glad you got to be a part of it

  3. Wow Mon! How cool is this!? I’ve always loved St. Jude, even before Wes had anything in common with its patients. I’m so glad you were able to participate in Kmart’s generosity!

    • Caro – I was thinking of you the entire time that I was there – wondering if Wes made counts to start antibody therapy. It was amazing to be a small part of the company’s giving and to know where all those toys were off too. The first thing that I put in my cart was the Elmo I brought Wes at Ronald McDonald “Mocca Donald :)”. Love you and thinking of you so much this week. You are an incredible mama. xx

  4. Oh my goodness, that’s an amazing, awesome, wonderful, can’t-day-enough-good-things-about-it-trip! We’ve supported St. Jude for years, and last night I was watching the Hollywood Holiday Parade… the commercials featured St. Jude quite a bit, and my heart was just tugged way more than usual. I’m so in love with a facility who does what they do for families and kids. I think they’re amazing, and now I think KMart and Marlo Thomas (and you, which I already thought anyway!) are amazing too. 🙂

  5. What a great organization! I think that its amazing that all their treatments are free! What a wonderful thing in this society where nothing is free. To be fighting an illness with parents worried about the hospital bill is so sad.

  6. I always hear great things about St. Jude. They are an amazing organization. Marlo Thomas is a gem in the way she gives of her time and support to the organization.
