Hydrating With Vita Coco Kids + Giveaway {Sponsored}

As summer months are fleeting, I find myself saying yes to my children more than ever. Even when I’m exhausted and would prefer to stay on some semblance of our typical family rhythm. One extra trip to the playground sprinklers; an additional evening sidewalk chalk fiasco; and extra time with our feet in the sand add the sort of twinkle to my children’s eyes that I only wish I could bottle. It’s the most minuscule things that truly make their day.

Our days are incredible full, and this summer has been a hot one. The people closest to me know that I’m a bit neurotic about hydration – especially in the summer. I started drinking Vita Coco coconut water occasionally last summer when it was recommended to me by my chiropractor as an effective and healthy way to hydrate after migraines (and prevent them as dehydration is one of my biggest triggers). My inseparable sidekick (then 2-year-old Adrian) started drinking it on occasion too, and he was quite particular about his brand of “coco-wawa”: Vita Coco. So when I was contacted to have my family test out Vita Coco Kids, their new line of health-minded drinks for children – it seemed fitting.

We are a water drinking family, but my children are obsessed with juice. We don’t have it in our home as some children’s juice boxes (even the organic varieties) are packed with sugar contents comparable to hefty desserts – clearly not the sort of stuff that I want to nourish my growing children with. Vita Coco Kids has only 8 grams of sugar and 35 calories per 6 fl. oz drink, which is substantially less than most other children’s beverages. It contains fresh coconut water (not from concentrate), vitamin C and electrolytes. It is free of artificial sweeteners and is packaged in Tetra Pak, and eco and socially responsible form of packaging comprised of a sustainable source of wood fiber.

I assumed that Lucia would love Vita Coco Kids, but was skeptical about Adrian’s reaction as he has been partial to the unflavored Vita Coco variety. Clearly, I was wrong, he guzzled down his Apple Island flavor even faster than his sister. My kids loved all three flavors, Apple Island, Paradise Punch and Very Cherry Beach and thanked me profusely for their new tasty drinks. On hot days when my children are constantly exerting energy, I’m definitely willing to break the straight water regime with nutrient-dense and electrolyte-filled Vita Coco Kids. I’m also happy that it provides potassium, a nutrient that my banana-shunning children are most likely lacking in.

  2. Yum!!!

  3. I’d like to bottle that twinkle too. 🙂

I don’t have banana shunners, but I like the potassium in there too. This is a great sounding drink.

    • Rose – If you figure out a way, please do share?!!! My kids are so strange when it comes to bananas. If I freeze them and put them in the blender – they LOVE their banana “ice cream” – but they refuse to eat them in their natural form. So strange. I think Vita Coco Kids is a great drink. I’ll definitely purchase them in the future!

  4. These sound Great! I love the photo of your kids and your boy inhaling every last drop. I would like to have my family test out that sampler pack. Regards, Riya

  5. These are so cool! I would love to win these for Ethan. He LOVES Vita Coco, and I bet he’d love these flavors, too!

    • Another little boy that loves Vita Coco? I like that these boxes are the perfect size for kids- and $4.99 per six pack is so much better than buying one adult sized Vita Coco (and sometimes wasting half of it!).

  6. Sounds delicious…and it looks like your littles definitely approve!

  7. Anything to keep my little one hydrated that tastes good works for me!

  8. Great hydration drink hopefully my daughter will love it!

  14. We have never tried Vita Coco – I bet my kids would love it!

  15. I would love to win a sample! Have never tried these!

  16. I am fairly new to coconut water…although I am a HUGE fan of coconut oil! To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on it myself the first time I tried it, but the flavour grew on me and now I LOVE it! I had NO idea that it was helpful for those who suffer from migraines (my sister-in-law does so I’m going to mention it to her!). Thanks for posting that info!

    • Hi Lisa! The flavor really grew on me too. I also wasn’t a lover at first – but now I honestly am! When I get migraines they cause severe nausea. I used to have a really hard time hydrating after being so sick. I always stayed away from sports drinks because of all the additives, sugar and junk in them. I used to just drink a ton of water and feel as if I could never adequately hydrate. I started drinking coconut water after migraine episodes and it really is the only thing that has made me feel like I re-hydrated. I always have two (hidden) in my fridge (I have to hide it bc the little boy will drink it all!). And on hot days when I am running around all day (my stroller is my vehicle here in NYC), I drink it to prevent dehydration which is a huge trigger for me. I always think it’s really cool when brands that are already a part of my life contact me through blogging. I’m so happy to share this one!

  17. would love to win

  18. is the kids version different than the adult version? i may have to try it too, as I am a kid at heart myself! (and can never drink just straight water)

    thanks for the giveaway!

    • The kiddo version is different. The flavors are sweet tasting and the serving size is smaller in a juice box-like package. My children love them/

  19. What a great idea! My kids would love these! Thank you for sharing. Your blog is super cute!

  20. Sounds like a great product and such a cute photo!
