Visiting Governors Island

Last weekend we hopped on a ferry at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 to travel to Governors Island, a former military base, located 800 yards away from lower Manhattan.  The free ferry zipped us there in around seven minutes (described by Lucia as SO COOL!!).  In addition to our water travel excitement, the kids also enjoyed exploring Figment’s art installations.  My husband and I loved people watching at the Jazz Age Lawn Party, and we’re all still talking about the hour we spent on our rented quadcycle.

I’m sharing more details over at Kidsy, an exciting new NYC resource for planning family activities.  I’m excited to be a contributor.

My participation as a Kidsy Insider is compensated, however all opinions in the post are my own

These pictures are great! I love the buildings in the view on the boat ride, and am glad you put a photo of the quad cycle up (how fun!!!).

  6. This looks like such a fun place! I love all of those eclectic things for the kids to play around on. That's one thing I miss about city living…having so many cool things close by! Enjoy 🙂

  7. I love this place. Great for a picnic

    • I agree. A picnic on the grass is an ideal plan for a Governor's Island trip – and with the free ferry – the trip can actually be cost free!

  8. Looks like so much fun! I wish we had more places like that where I live! At least I get to appreciate the beach for two months a year…not bad! 😉

  9. This looks like so much fun…and its definitely on my to do list. Was there a special event going on there while you were there?
