Creative Children’s Bedding from Redbubble

I want my kiddos bedroom to remain a special hideaway.  Although it’s a shared space (which they still love!) – it really is the only place that they can claim as their own. I’ve found children’s bedding options to be pretty limited.  Typically a boring dichotomy of cutesy prints or character embalzed everything.  And when I find a design that is of interest to me – it’s often so on trend that I lose interest (hello monochrome cross prints).

I’m so excited to share my recent discovery!  Redbubble, an online marketplace, boats the most amazing products featuring designs from artists all over the world. The artwork is brilliant – offering the most creative and unique bedding options that I have ever seen.  Best of all the creative community platform allows artists to sell their masterpieces on Redbubble’s list of products, for free.  Yes, free!  So your purchase supports artistic talent as well.

With a goal of injected cool bedding  into the kids room, my husband and I spent a great deal of time on the Redbubble website drooling over the plethora of options. From incredible animals, amazing geometric shapes and beautifully bizarre creations – we had difficulty selecting!  Here are some of our favorite duvet cover options.

Books & Bedtime With Pinkalicious {Bedding & Storybook Giveaway}

Watching my daughter learn how to read at 4.5 years of age, was by far one of the most rewarding milestones to experience in motherhood.  I’m always trying to strengthen both Lucia and Adrian’s interest in reading and literacy appreciation.  There is nothing quite like getting lost in a book, identifying with a character and longing to gobble up the words on the pages.

As the parent of a newish reader I have two important tips to share:

  • Have books available that your child wants to devour.
  • Have books available that are aligned with your child’s current reading level.

Lucia loves everything Pinkalicious, and I appreciate the values woven through the stories.  We have a collection of Victoria Kann’s Pinkalicious books in our home library, and we were lucky enough to take in the Vital Theatre’s Pinkalicous The Musical from front row seating this past spring.  I couldn’t wait to surprise Lucia with a grand Pinkalicious surprise: Pinkalicious – The Pinkamazing Storybook Collection, a Pinkalicious Twin Comforter set and Pinkalicious Twin Sheet Set.  It was indeed Christmas in July en el casa de Marino.

The Pinkalicious- Pinkamazing Storybook Collection includes 6 books in one great hardcover book.  Four of the books are part of the I Can Read series Level 1 (appropriate for ages 4 – 8), which is perfect for my voracious reader.  This storybook is the sort of book that makes my Lucia sneak into the bathroom for a flashlight to continue her bedtime reading after I have left the room.  The stories and beautiful illustrations definitely pique her interest, and the reading level helps to strengthen her budding confidence.

The sweet Pinkalicious comforter set and sheet set are a Pinkalicious lovers dream come true.  The comforter has a beautiful ruffled edge, and the reverse side has a unique faux patchwork-quilt look, featuring images from the Pinkalicious series including unicorns, cupcakes, flowers and crowns. Lucia’s favorite part is definitely the applique gold star wand on the comforter and pillow case.  For a few years, I tried to maintain a minimal white  look in the children’s shared bedroom, but I’ve grown to learn that my littles are most happy with bedding that they love.  The change to a character theme made Lucia feel really special.

Children’s Shared Bedroom with Glidden Disney Paint {Sponsored}

In my home, we are big DIYers.  My husband and I find considerable pleasure in the creative process and tackling projects ourselves.  When Lucia (our oldest) transitioned into a big girl bed, a great deal of sewing, re-purposing and refurbishing took place.  Our redecorating efforts felt incredibly special, and we were all happy with the outcome.

Adrian moved into his older sister’s room around his first birthday and we didn’t do much to gender neutralize the room.  We added a shelf, purchased two gorgeous crib sheets and rearranged a bookshelf.  At nearly two years later, the room still has a much stronger feminine pull.

It’s hard to believe that my boy (my baby!) will be three-years-old next month.  We were in the midst of brainstorming a possible room-redo to celebrate his big-boyhood, when an opportunity to test our Glidden’s line of Disney Paints serendipitously appeared.  It gave me the push I finally needed to make Adrian feel special in his shared space; however I was a bit apprehensive about making all parties happy.  I’ll admit that I am a lover of white, bright spaces with a soft serene feel, but I also want my children to be happy.  I needed to find something that big sister and mama would also approve of – a tall order indeed!

We ventured to Wallmart with kids in tow, prepared for massive disagreement.  I think that my heart may have skipped a beat when I spotted an entire DIY section (complete with sewing supplies and fabric!) and my kids were immediately all over the rows of Glidden’s Disney Paint.  They saw their favorite characters displayed in the Glidden paint section, and conversed amongst themselves about their new room.  I thought that all had gone array when Lucia attached herself to a can of Disney All That Glitters Interior Specialty Paint (declaring that Cinderella’s picture was speaking to her!)  Keeping the emphasis on celebrating Adrian, we found our answer in a quart of Disney Ready-Set-Glow Interior Specialty Paint.  The kids were over-the-moon about adding intergalactic-glowing-fun to their room, and we can’t wait to surprise Adrain with Buzz Lightyear themed bedding.  Luckily, mama was pacified after learning that the luminous, translucent topcoat would add cool glowing accents when the lights are turned off  (ie. still maintaining light-walled serenity).

One of the greatest things about this project is that Glidden Disney Paint (exclusive to Walmart) offers an affordable way to decorate with inspirations from Disney Magic that children know and love.  My bambini, like so many I know, are definitely character driven, and as a parent I feel safe embarking on painting their room because Glidden Disney Paint is low odor and has no VOCs (an absolute must in my book.).  This premium-quality paint comes in 112 exclusive colors and five innovative specialty finishes.  Its distinct collection of colors has specialty palette groups catering to various styles and ages (from infant to tween).  Furthermore, room decorating at Walmart is easy as Glidden Disney paint colors were created to complement each other and  pieces from Walmart’s line of Disney bedding and accessories.  It is also specially formulated  to be ultra-durable to withstand wear and tear by messy littles – a definite necessity in my home!

Before leaving Walmart, I was able to pick up a ton of party food, supplies and a $50 Walmart gift card door-prize (be on the lookout for my room reveal party post!).  I don’t get to Walmart that often as there isn’t one close to us, but it truly felt like a one-stop-shop and the prices were unbelievable.

I can’t wait to get started!

Between Four Walls

Like most siblings, my children have their share of squabbles, hurt feelings, and episodes of what I perceive to be I-want-that-toy-right-now-because-he/she-has-it-syndrome.

Yet every single night they fall asleep to the sound of each other’s voices, the monitor fills our hearts one last time before silence sets in.  Giggles, squeals and comfort in the dark. Knock-knock jokes that make entirely  no sense.  Silly songs composed by mama, sung by tender hearts in unison.  Companionship upon awakening – they are never alone.  And in their shared space they plot grand schemes, bursting through their door, arms linked in solidarity.  “Let’s make cupcakes” seems like more of a possibility when your fellow ally is gripping your hand.

I pause to thank my lucky stars for whatever path lead me to this life and to a city where space is sparse, yet love is so so rich cocooned between four walls.
